Last Monday, in our multimedia room in the library, Xzavian Cookbey, Student of Film in the Santa Fe University of Arts and Design, gave a workshop focused on "How to make a documentary video" using the tools available in our school.
The workshop was theoretical and practical, and 10 people participated: 8 students, Mr. Gonzalo Sherrington (Designer) and Ms. María Mercedes Yeomans (Teacher-Librarian). The topics were Lighting, Framing and Interviewing. After the instruction, students were able to practice with the cameras of The Mackay School and apply what they learnt in a practical task. Xzavian said:
"The workshop was very helpful and informative for the students. They showed that they understood and that everything was helpful, when they worked in groups to apply the few skills I had taught them in that hour together. I was very impressed with their effort as a group." "They all exhibited an interest to learn the useful skills needed in order to make this project great. Some of them had and idea of how to achieve an insightful film before entering the room, but they were willing to learn. That is the foundation to any great project."
Xzavian shared some useful videos with the students, including some of his personal work to show the B Roll technique and some framing tips.

El lunes pasado, en la sala multimedia de nuestra Biblioteca, se realizó una taller para alumnos el cual estuvo enfocado en "Cómo hacer un video documental" con las herramientas que cuenta el establecimiento. El taller fue de carácter teórico-práctico, y en él participaron 10 personas: 8 alumnos, el Sr. Gonzalo Sherrington (Diseñador del Colegio) y Srta. María Mercedes Yeomans (Encargada de Biblioteca). Los temas tratados fueron Iluminación, Framing y Entrevistas. Se trabajó in situ con las cámaras del colegio Mackay, las que fueron examinadas y usadas por los alumnos, después de la instrucción, en un trabajo práctico.
Xzavian Cookbey, expositor del taller, es alumno de la carrera de Cine en la Universidad de Santa Fe de Arte y Diseño en New Mexico, Estados Unidos. Él manifiesta:
"El taller fue informativo y de mucha ayuda para los estudiantes. Demostraron que entendieron y que todo les ayudó cuando trabajaron en grupos para aplicar las pocas habilidades que les había enseñado en esa hora que pasamos juntos. Me impresioné mucho con su esfuerzo como grupo. Todos demostraron un interés en aprender las habilidades necesarias para hacer de éste un gran proyecto. Algunos de ellos tenían una idea de como lograr una buena película antes de entrar a la sala, pero estuvieron dispuestos a aprender. Esa es la base de cualquier gran proyecto".
Xzavian compartió con los alumnos algunos videos de utilidad, incluyedo algunos de su trabajo personal para mostrar la técnica B Roll y Framing.
